Editorial Policy
This policy sets out how the Standards Desk decides what to publish, how it verifies technical claims, and how it handles corrections.
Scope
The desk publishes engineering-analytical material on digital video compression: codec architecture, container behaviour, constant-quality control, acceleration paths, ladder planning and quality measurement. We stay within that scope deliberately, because depth in a narrow field is more useful than breadth without rigour.
Verification
Before publication, a technical claim must be explainable from mechanism. Where we cite a numeric anchor, the author records the conditions under which it was observed: the source characteristics, the resolution and frame rate, and the encoder family. A figure without recorded conditions is not published.
Neutrality
Comparisons are written to describe, not to recommend. Where interfaces are compared, they appear in a single objective table of technical characteristics. We never present a comparison as a ranking, and we accept no sponsorship that would influence one.
Naming and fair reference
Project names appear only where a technical comparison requires them, and only descriptively. Their appearance implies no relationship. We never present a route to obtaining any distributable package, and we host no files of that kind, as stated in our disclaimer.
Corrections
When we are shown to be wrong, we correct the page and note that it was revised. A correction is a normal part of technical writing, not an embarrassment to be hidden. Reports may be sent to [email protected].
Authorship
All material is authored by the desk. We do not republish third-party text, and we do not present externally produced work as our own.
Review cycle
Pages are reviewed periodically and whenever a standard or interface changes materially. The review date on legal pages is updated each time those pages are revisited.
